I have a little bit of Irish, Polish, English and Indian (Choctaw) mixed into my family lineage but for the most part I am 85% German lineage.
When I think of German heritage there are a few things that come to my mind and probably come up in other’s minds that may not be German.
The problem is, my family is so secretive.what am I suppost to write about?
I at least need two pages so it really isn't that bad at all.
You recently learned that you are French and Welch, okay that's a very good start as for tying things into your family culture. And are they really secretive or is what you are calling "secretive" really a cultural respect for "privacy." You could actually write quite a few paragraphs on that alone.
First, if you are currently living in the United States you can research or inquire about your family's immigration to the U. If they continue to be secretive, then research to see why other people from those countries may have immigrated here specifically during the time yours did. For example, during the Victorian era there were many topics "one simply did not discuss", family or not. I might just have to write about generic information like what pohnpei had said.The largest Beer brewer in the world today Anheuser-Busch was started in St.Louis, Missouri by Adolphus Busch in 1860 who was a German immigrant.The appealing thing about this new land was that they would have religious freedom along with the freedom to build a life and perform their craft or trade how they wanted to in this new land.Many of the Germans at this time were protestant and the thought of religious freedom was very appealing as many German immigrants migrated to Pennsylvania.As long as the English settlers have been here, so have the German Immigrants.When the word got back to Germany about these first few German immigrants who made it to this new land, the number of immigrants drastically increased.I know that its about me and my culture so I don't expect much..i just need some suggestions if any...
