We’re always looking for new workshop leaders, and for new ideas for workshops, so if you have a workshop that you’d like to propose, or that you’d like to see QWF organize, please write to us.The Quebec Writers’ Federation is delighted to announce two scholarships to participate in QWF writing workshops during the fall session of 2020.In this class we will be reading and discussing a wide variety of very short stories, from contemporary writers and writers of the past.

We offer workshops in a wide range of genres, including long- and short-form fiction, memoir, narrative nonfiction, poetry, playwriting, screenwriting, children’s and/or young adult literature, and career-related topics.

We occasionally run single workshops at other times of year – keep an eye on the site and listings!

The themes and problems of the piece are all present, stated or suggested, sometimes hidden.

We will learn to do that: get out of the starting blocks fast, leaving our anxieties behind.

In this fiction-writing workshop, we will get our stories to hit the ground running by working on our Page One.

Short story or long-form fiction, all the elements of narration are thrown into play right away on the first page (okay, maybe a little on the second).QWF runs two regular seasons of writing workshops per year, in Spring (March to May) and Fall (October to December).Registration for the Spring workshops opens in January, and for the Fall workshops in August.The focus of our creative writing program is on the interchange between reading and writing.Literature courses form a significant portion of the curriculum, and introductory creative writing courses emphasize reading published writing in the genre in question, with a view to technical development.Creative writing studies theories and methods on expressing thoughts, feelings and emotions by using the written medium, as opposed to simply presenting written facts.Students learn to use elements of fiction, character creation and plot development and, upon graduation, gain the opportunity to work as play writers, screenwriters, journalists and fiction writers.Through a combination of in-class writing exercises and reading scripts aloud, it will allow playwrights to take their scripts to the next level.How, as writers, can we break the surface of the everyday and go deep?Before starting a programme, you need to have a basic knowledge of the English language.Concordia University has been offering creative writing courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels for over 25 years, and has become a training ground for several generations of Canadian writers.
